On the 23rd October 2017 MBA 3rd Semester students having specialization in the field of quality management and operations visited Reserve Bank of India, Gangtok. Mr. Mahabendra Mishra, The general manager of RBI Gangtok Branch addressed the students and discussed the various quality issues and initiatives by RBI throughout the country.
The state was serviced until January 2010 by the Kolkata office of the RBI. On 25th January 2010, an office in Gangtok was set-up at Tadong near Amdugolai by-pass. The purpose of RBI is to serve quality of the financial system in a state. RBI serves more than 1.3 billion citizens throughout the country.
The general manager has given a very brief lecture on the quality issues and newly implemented rules and methods for serving a financial system in different ways. For the implementation of quality, RBI is having the tripod model which connects the RBI, Citizen and the world bodies.
The main functional responsibilities of RBI are as follows: 1935- Issue of currency,1949- Regulation of commercial bank,1966- Regulation of co-operative bank,1969- Development of banking system,1976- Regulation of RRBs,1990- Contributory presence in worldwide,1991- LPG (Liberalization, Privatization, Globalization),2017- It started to act as a non-banking financial companies.
The visit was helpful for the students to understand the quality services in the banking sector.
